Hi!

Welcome to my blog! I use this platform to share my adventures in fitness, food, habit fostering and gratitude. So happy you are here!

Let's talk about {habits}

A habit is "a behavior that is recurrent, is cued by a specific context, often happens without much awareness or conscious intent, and is acquired through frequent repetition.

A habit requires no decision from me, because I've already decided.

Habits make change possible by freeing us from decision making and needing to use self-control." - Gretchen Rubin, Better Than Before [YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK]

One of my habits [that took significant time and practice to cultivate] is waking up early, even on the weekends, to get my day started with some form of physical activity.

My alarm goes off at 7am on Saturday mornings [used to be 6am ;-)] and I actually jump out of bed to start my day. For real.  Gross, I know, right?

This didn't happen overnight.  First, it took the initial desire to want to get up earlier, followed by a series of tiny steps to get myself there.  I had to identify the barriers keeping me from forming this habit, and tackle each of them, one by one. Por ejemplo...

Barrier: "I'm too tired to wake up earlier <insert sad, winey, crying emoji>"

Solution: Get better sleep

Tiny Step: Instead of keeping my phone next to my bed at night <which allowed me to get lost into the black hole of the interwebs until the wee hours of the night> I started to place it across my bedroom.  This killed two birds with one stone: removed distraction before bed AND required me to actually get up out of bed to shut my alarm off in the AM.

What positive change do you want to cultivate today? What are a few of the barriers keeping you from forming that habit? What tiny step can you take today to make it easier?
